Read the Bible with Me!

Welcome to the Pauline Family's "Year of the Bible"! I'm reading the Bible clear through this year, and I invite you to read along with me. But first, let us pray:

I praise you, my God, with all people.
May they thank and adore you!
You have written your greatness in creation,
your Law in consciences,
your eternal promises in the Bible.
You are eternally faithful and always lovable!
As I read Sacred Scripture today, open my mind to hear your voice and understand your loving message.
Amen.

Today's chapters are Numbers 35-36 (yay!) and Deuternomy 1.

The book of Numbers closes without much fanfare, and so we move into the last book of the Pentateuch. Deuteronomy is from Greek: deuteros, second and nĂ³mos, law. It is not a new Law, but a second copy, a retelling of the Law, almost a re-giving of it through Moses' words of exhortation, and a recommitment to it on the part of the people as they are about to enter the Promised Land.

Much that we will encounter in the next 34 chapters will be familiar from our previous weeks' readings, but there will be some spectacular passages that we know from other sources. It will be wonderful to find them in their original setting, and to encounter them in the context of the Torah itself.

Let's begin!

Start reading Numbers here and Deuteronomy here
