The occasion is the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St Joseph as patron of the universal Church (by Blessed Pius IX). There's a short document entitled "With a Father's Heart" that is a lovely meditation on the ways St Joseph exercised his vocation as a father. You can find the Year of St Joseph document here. Unfortunately, the Vatican web page ran it in all the major languages in one long stream. I copied the English section into a document that I could print and bring to chapel for prayerful reading.
Despite the technical hurdle, I urge you to "take and read" the little Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis. It is very fitting after a full year of challenges to reflect on the way the early life of Jesus was surrounded with harsh realities, violence, political and social conflict: St Joseph was there for him through it all, and he is still the guardian of the Body of Christ today. (Not to mention the "terror of demons," my personal favorite among the invocations in his litany!)
Years ago, Pope John Paul II also penned an Apostolic Exhortation on St Joseph. Guardian of the Redeemer is exceptionally beautiful. In it, Pope John Paul offered a striking reflection on how St Joseph was the man chosen by God to be on earth the image of God the Father for God the Son. It could be another source of Advent (or maybe Christmas season) spiritual reading for you.
Pope Francis closes with a prayer:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.
