The Relevance of Cardinal Newman

Visitors to St. Peter's Church in Chicago's Loop have a wonderful bonus to their daily prayer: the monthly bulletin of the "Friars Legion." Fr. Bob Sprott, OFM, writes the bulletin reflections, and his article for April was a real doozie. Don't miss it! Fr. Sprott is also my favorite homilist.

I'd love to know the name of the Franciscan who heard my confession at St. Peter's and told me that what I was confessing WASN'T a sin. (It was.) That "the Church didn't worry about that anymore." (She does.)

I got a little frosty about St. Peter's. Maybe I'll have to read up a little. Thanks for the link.

I had absolution refused there once, too. The priest just said, "I'll give you a blessing." Sometimes I think it is just that it can be a lot of work to go into something with someone and say, "Well, that doesn't sound like a sin to me. Why do you bring it to confession?" (I mean in things that are not obviously contrary to Church teachings!) Because if they guy had to live with me the way my sisters in community do, he would probably be glad to have me bringing that stuff up for sacramental grace! Anyway, the priest is dead now... may he rest in peace. They have some wonderful guys there, and some I would just not do confession with...
Be sure to check Fr. Sprott's article for May!
