Excellent actionable suggestions. Spiritual communion is a practice that is out of vogue among the laity. Could you provide a link to the appropriate prayers?
The usual approach is to turn to Jesus telling him that you love him and would like to receive him, but since that's not possible, "Please come at least spiritually into my heart." And then pray as at Holy Communion.
